Reefer containers are used to carry fresh produce overseas. These containers have a temperature range from +14 degrees to minus 25 degrees.

New refrigeration units are custom built overseas on order - the lead time for a new refrigerated container is two to three months

Second hand containers are available readily throughout South Africa. Second hand containers also comes in various conditions, some of them do not work but are used as insulated storage containers. Operational refrigerated containers are checked to ensure that they are in working condition and comes with a PTI (pre-trip inspection report) showing the operational condition of the unit.

Just like second hand cars - these units have various makes, models and years. The older the container (although in working condition), the less expensive it will be. The majority of containers are Carrier Microlink 2i or 3i models or Thermoking models - these available sizes are 6m, 12m Standard and 12m High Cubed. Conversions of second hand refrigerated units to 3m refrigerated units can be done on request.
